from erotica with love

Little Birds: Erotica by Anais Nin (146 pgs) 1979

I’ve heard Anais Nin referenced for years, especially for her multivolume diaries, but never read any of her work.  Plus- coolest name ever.  Color me curious.  Little Birds is a collection of erotic short stories.  There were a couple of border-line pedophilia stories (very young teens)  that were disturbing, but overall the stories were interesting.  Nin is a solid writer with a masterful grasp of connotation.  This is something I always notice- if an author is able feed the tone of the story with the emotive power of unrelated words, I’m a fan.  It’s impressive to think she was writing these stories when a woman writing erotica was unheard of.
